The grants enable researchers to carry out their own independent projects and lead a research team in Switzerland. The average duration of the projects is five years and the average funding amount is CHF 1.7 million.

In the 2024 call for proposals, 14 UZH researchers won over the evaluation committees with their applications. Of the funded projects, eight are at the Faculty of Medicine, four are based at the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences, and two are at the Faculty of Science. The total amount of the grants awarded is over CHF 24.7 million over the next five years.

SNSF Starting Grants represent the SNSF’s highest level of career funding. Following a two-stage evaluation, the SNSF awarded a total of 61 grants this year, 40 to female researchers and 21 to male researchers. The total funding amounts to CHF 105.4 million.
