Under Pressure

Stress and crises affect us all. But what enables us to deal with life’s pressures, both on a personal level and as a society? Researchers at UZH are exploring this question from a variety of perspectives. Some of their findings are presented in the latest issue of the UZH Magazin.

Chronic stress is one of the hallmarks of our time. Around one quarter of people in Switzerland say they often feel stressed. On top of our everyday pressures, there are other factors that can weigh us down, including the uncertainty in today’s global political and economic landscape. Or the gloomy prospect of increasing natural disasters, such as the landslide that devastated the small village of Blatten in the Valais.

Whether psychological, social, economic or environmental, these pressures come in many forms. At UZH, researchers from across the disciplines are investigating the things that burden us – and what helps us build resilience, both as individuals and as a society. The new UZH Magazin shines a light on the many facets of this topic.

Not all doom and gloom

The magazine also contains articles on additional topics, including innovative interdisciplinary teaching formats, an interview on the consequences of political violence, and a portrait of Uli Sigg, the renowned art collector and former Swiss ambassador to China who is joining UZH as a visiting professor.

As always, the articles will be published on our website in English over the coming weeks. Happy reading!
