UZH Alumni to Support Nine Young Talents

The Research Talent Development Fund (FAN) of UZH Alumni is awarding “Academic Excellence Fellowships” 2025 to nine outstanding young researchers at the University of Zurich. A total of CHF 691,000 will be allocated to projects ranging from cancer research to ethical corporate governance.

The funded projects convinced the scientific advisory board in a competitive selection process due to their social relevance and international appeal. UZH Alumni thus sets an example for scientific excellence, social commitment and close ties with the alma mater.

This year's FAN Fellows reflect the thematic diversity and scientific excellence of research at UZH: their projects range from novel therapeutic approaches for stroke and cancer patients and a citizen science initiative for bird conservation to the legal analysis of global climate policy and ethical corporate governance.

The FAN Fellows 2025

“Supporting young, talented researchers is an investment in the future of our society and the University of Zurich as an outstanding academic educational institution,” emphasizes FAN President Dr. Balz Hösly. “With the FAN, we create space for bold ideas, excellent research and secure prospects for an academic career – supported by the solidarity of our alumni and alumnae with their university and by our foundation partners.”

Further awards

In addition to the fellowships, three FAN Awards were presented in February in collaboration with the Graduate Campus as part of the Sparkling Research Gala. This results in a total of CHF 706,000 in funding for young academics at UZH in 2025.
